On extremely rare occasions, a Master Class instrument comes out with a miniscule imperfection. The good folks at the Big House have a blemished Orca available. The white binding has the tiniest of imperfections. Please see the below pictures.

Any thoughts on upgrading tuners? I have a Spirit KO (#9562) with the black tailpiece but Saga(?) tuners (14 tooth gears). Do Shaller tuners drop right in? I would like to have black knobs too instead of the standard white ones. Any ideas?

Alpine Setup

Good day folks-recently was fortunate enough to add an Alpine as a playmate to my FF. The FF is dead solid, comes out of the case right on playable, in comparison to the Alpine. It was supposedly 'setup" by the dealer from whom I purchased but the neck seems "tilted" to some degree, and the bridge has been adjusted all the way up, resulting in the treble strings being higher and bass strings being almost down on the fret board. capo confession

I am shopping for a mandolin and was playing some Breedloves at a local music shop. The store could not produce a capo that worked with the radiused neck. Surely I'm not the only person who uses a capo. Any suggestions?

Vibrating truss rod cover

Title says it all. My truss rod cover (Quartz KO) gets into a harmonic vibration when I play a little hard/loud. It is attached by a single screw at the bottom the cover, and the top/body of the cover does not seem to be in firm contact with the headstock when the screw is tight, thus the vibration.

Any suggestions?

Care for Quartz with clear finish - cross post from Cafe

My used Quartz KO arrived with a flat "dry" finish (like no finish at all), but after a month or so of play, the pickguard area (where a pickguard would normally go) is acquiring a smooth "oily" darker finish that I fear will contrast poorly with the rest of the body. I'm sure it is caused by my fingertips brushing against the wood.

This is a used (well-used!) mando, so the previous players must have had terrific right hand technique to keep things so clean....

Incoming Breedlove Quartz OO.......Finally

Yesterday I ordered (from one of our FINE forumites) a new Breedlove Quartz OO. It should be done in about a month...so I'll have it maybe by late April/early May.

I had wrestled with small builders, Pac-Rim (shudder...LOL), and other builders for a carved A oval hole.

It's good to be home. I had a Quartz OO in 1999.....a very early one, and absolutely loved it. Foolishly I sold it in 2002.

I have a new (to me) Columbia with several details different from Breedlove's current specs. I'd really appreciate any history any of you Breedlove fans (this is my first Breedlove and first real venture into mandolins) could provide.
