However, as I start to branch out I am puzzle by how to change guitars, that have pickups in them, without having to go over to the amp and turn off the power so I don't get that pop sound. Does someone make something that you can turn off the current or sound from the guitar so you don't have to go over to the amp and turn it off and then power it back up.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me any suggestions on learning to play. Right now, I'm teaching myself using a book with CDs (Guitar Bible that wifey bought for me) and "lesson" sections from a few different web sites (about.com being one). I'm still at a point where I'm practicing transitioning from chord to chord (getting better) and a few scales, but that's getting old fast.
