I don't own one but I play 3 to 4 of them each week. The H&D is a very well made, high quality, guitar. There workmanship on all the guitars I have
played is just outstanding. My fav. so far has been a CM model with Blackwood and Sitka. The CM is about the size of an OM but has the depth of a dred.
Great sounding guitar or guitars in general.
Like any guitar company every guitar is different. So just stand out beyond others and I have found this to be true with the H&D also. However, I have not found a bad one so far. ragtime man |

I really can't say enough about what a wonderful guitar and company they are. I was so impressed with the comfort of the small 00 I have and its
appointments and attention to detail, its loudness and projection, it's super lightweight, and then the lightening fast service I received when I had an
issue to be resolved. Hats off to a great company near our friend powerandwisdom who should own one of those beauties too. I wouldn't hesitate to buy
another from them and there are only three companies I can say that about at this point for acoustic guitars, no offense to rest.

Come on.... Nobody else has anything to say or share about H&D guitars? If I could find a forum for them I would go there. Maybe we should start
one....Anyone?

Bulletman, we can talk about H and D all day long in this section, that's what it's for. Gear it up, push some buttons, let's get this ball
rolling. My hunch is that most guys here have not owned and H and D. I know Ragtime has tried quite a few and come close, he is a good resource on them if you
want to know a few things, and Power lives near their facility in Virginia. I own one. UNREAL GUITAR!

I've never looked for a Huss and Dalton forum, but then even though I love mine dearly, it's not the same as my Breedlove passion which has me now
owning 5 of them now, and one more coming someday! I have a cutaway model with beeswing mahogany sidea and back and adirondack top. There's no question
about it, it plays superbly and sounds incredible. I didn't have any mahogany guitars and haven't ever really been all that attracted to the sounds of
mahogany but thought I should give it a try since I keep hearing so much great stuff about them. (All true, once I gave it a chance!) And how could a guy go
wrong to get an adirondak top? It's actually a pretty lightweight guitar, more like a breedlove and not so heavey as my Collings or Goodalls, yet plays
very similarly. Anyway, I'm not the purist that some are, I prefer the Breedlove and the Goodall style wood bindings to the ivorid and herringbone stuff,
and the asymetrical bridges and so on, so probably wont be accumulating a huge collection of H&D's, but sure do love owning & playing the one!
Here's a couple pics that I may have posted before, but in case anyone needs a fresh look at them! (Isn't that beeswing M some pretty stuff!)

Way too close! I'm just over an hour away on good ole I-81. I don't own one, but they get rave reviews. I'd love to have one someday. Chris, that hog is crazy GAS inducing wood. WOW!!!!! Education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a

I own one of the early CM's made in 1998, I'm the only owner. With the possible exception of a couple of luthier built guitars I have, it is the best
built guitar I've owned and one of the few I would never consider selling. Mine is Indian rosewood and Engleman spruce with curly maple binding. Nice clear
tone, even responce and excellent string seperation. The neck is a slim profile but very stable. I lowered the saddle this year for the first time in 9 years,
not because the action had gotten higher I just decided I wanted it a touch lower. I've never had to adjust the truss rod. Unless they've changed a
great deal, Huss&Daltons are some seriously well built guitars. I own quite a few other guitars but whenever I pick up my Huss it's like getting
together with an old friend. Even though the body is dread depth it is real comfortable to play. If anybody were looking for an OM size body I'd definitely
check a CM out.

Awesome guitar! I love HOG guitars! I bet it is a cannon! Thanks for the pics. I have put some $ on a D-RH Huss & Dalton. It is a BIG sounding guitar!
Large sound hole (4 3/8 in), Indi rose B/S, sitka top with adi spruce braces, slight radius top to add strength when using light bracing and also more mid
range focus and not so muddy. Neat design and LOUD!!! I couldn't believe the volume. I put my D-18 on consignment that same day as it would never be the
same after playing the D-RH. I can't wait to get it out. I have not heard a Martin that sounded as good as this H&D did. The attention to detail on the
H&D is great. I tell ya, I am still loving my OMM-Deluxe Custom. This was my first Adi topped guitar. I just can't believe how good it looks and
sounds. I blows away all my Martins. I have had a few Breedloves, but none like this one. Thanks for the H&D talk. I'd love as much as you guys can
throw.... I hope you guys are enjoying the Holidays.

Chris I don't know about you, but I have a fortune in fly fishing gear. I still have more invested in my guitars. I think they are great hobbies that go
hand in hand. When you get finished fishing, yo go to the truck and pull out the guitar or vica versa. My traveling for a living (I usually drive) so I get a
chance to do both. I play more guitar than I do fly fishing. Natrualy, you can play anywhere.... However, I'm not that great at either one of my hobbies.
It gets me to my happy place either way.

Chris that Hog of your is a great looking guitar. I played one made with the same combination that was a CM. Great guitar but I decided against it because I
have my Gibson LG-2 that is Hog with Adi on the top so it would have been like having something similar to what I already owned. I could sell my LG-2, and I
thought about it, but that guitar is a 46-47 and has that acoustic rag/blues sound coming out of it and I just didn't want to loose that since that is what
I mainly play.
I think I would like to get and H&D CM with blackwood and cedar. But right now I am holding off picking up anything. As Bltprf502 says flyfishing and guitar playing go well together. I remember flyfishing every morning on the Kenai and the Kalseeloft for kings and then reds. What a great time and then home for a little nap and a bit of music. ragtime man |

barely willing to try one since the sound and tone of them didn't really do much for me. I got a chance to visit the Podium's shop here in Minneapolis
last year and kind of picked it simply because I knew from the H & D reputation that I'd be getting a good one. I honestly had no idea of how much it
would appeal to me both from a sound aspect, and playability... it's truly turned out to be one of the top two played guitars in the house now, right
alongside my cedar/koa c-25.
Not to steal the thread, maybe just for a quick note on the side, but what kind of rods do you guys throw? I have a couple Sage, a Powell and some Orvis... |

powerandwisdom wrote: PandW many, many, years ago I started my professional life as a shop teacher long before I went back school to change careers. I had a woodworking class in college and when I was a teacher we would sub. for each other. We also had access to everyone elses shop in the school so on weekends I would go in and work in the woodworking shop even though I wasn't teaching woodworking. I have always worked in wood. I now do woodcarving and wood sculpture weekly. I carving daily when I lived in Alaska sometimes for 16 hours a day over vacations or holidays. I have a 14 inch band saw, 13 inch planer, and a 1957 Shopsmith that is still working fine. I guess I could put new bearing in it but I kind of like the groaning it does sometimes. So with the Shopsmith I have the ability to have a lathe, 12 inch disc sander, drill press, jointer, and table saw. I bought a Inca router table about year ago but I don't have it all put together yet. I will need to get a trim router to do the binding and purfling and maybe a couple of other pieces like a bending machine. A friend that retired a couple of years ago has build a bending machine and it seems to work fine but it is set up to bend 000s and not OMs. I will also need to build all the jigs for an OM but I got the rest of my life so if it takes me a while so be it. I would also need to build the jigs that are needed for some of the tools like the jig that you need for the trim router since the top and the sides are on perpendicular to each other all the way around. I haven't built "a birdhouse" in a long time but have build end tables, workbenches and turned some pens. Since I haven't done any really technical work, other than woodcarving/sculpture every week, I know there will be some mistakes, or as I prefer to call them "design modifications," but I think if I don't get to frustrated I will get it done even with its flaws. Design modifications are a lot like what I referred to in Alaska as a long range releases when I was fishing. I never lost a fish I would have a long range release. I have thought also about starting with a kit and then building one from scratch as I am building from a kit. Look and read about the kit, do the next step on the kit, and cut and build the piece for the guitar from scratch and then do the same step that I just did on the kit. So it would be a side by side project one kit, one from scratch, with the result being two guitars at the end or a lot of expensive wood to burn. I know there would be things in the scratch one that I wouldn't need to do in the kit like make some of the pieces that would be done for me in a kit. Who knows for sure if I actually will do this but at this point it is on the to do list. But as you say a nice transition project. ragtime man |

With my parents lodge and my tour boat business, I tend to get some great deals
on fly rods and gear every once in a while (we got to be "testers" for the new line of gore-tex Cloudveil waders and coats this summer) and it seems
I'm still having to pay 4-500 bucks for a good flyrod today. And, like you, I'm not that great at eitehr hobby, but somehow regardless of my less than
"world class" proficiency, I still manage to have "world class" memories of my experiences... which says a lot for how cool the hobbies are
doesn't it? I just bought one of those rainsong composite guitars so I can leave it up at the inlaws cabin and not worry about temperature and humidity
changes over time just so I can stop loading one of my other guitars in the plane all the time in order to play after fishing!
