I am looking to purchase an acoustic/electric 5 string bass and am starting to explore the Atlas series by Breedlove. I've played a Taylor and found it to be, well, less than the legend calls for. No sustain and almost "brittle" sounding. I've played a few others and was equally unimpressed. What can you tell me about the Atlas basses? How is sound, resonance, sustain, electronics, etc? Also, what can you help me learn about the differences between the sitka and cedar models? Is the spruce worth the extra money? Thanks for reading and for any assistance you can give me! You have the Plus inlays and the gold Grovers vs.chromes, rosewood overlay, and all solid woods making a lot of that difference. There is a smaller nut on the cedar version. Hmmm... Parlor Posts: 57 April 2, 2008 21:40:22 Dealer	Sparky, Solid cedar and solid rosewood... a remarkable combination. Once that rosewood opens up I think you'll be amazed at how much bottom end it will have. For a few dollars more than the laminated mahogany, I think it's money well spent. The cedar model also includes a bit more cosmetic bling as well as the upgraded Fishman that includes a tuner. Jeff's right; it's delicious. Dave

I just need to find one to play first. Yeah, I'm that way. Can you guys provide input on the 5 year warranty on the Atlas? Why only 5 when the rest of Breedlove's lineup has a lifetime?

In discussing my style of play it seems like the sitka/mahogany combination may indeed be best for me. I play a bit harder than most with a percussive style and the response of the slightly harder wood may be to my benefit. I also found out they have a model "ABC25/SM4" in black finish. Hmmmmm! It's not on their website yet but I am very, very intrigued! This bass is in "concert" size... can anyone tell me what great differences in sound there might be compared to jumbo? Anyway, this is gettting to be fun!

If I am not mistaken a concert is somewhere between a dreadnought and a 000 size guitar. Maybe like a 0000, but a little less fattie. I mean heck...I have an Ed Gerhard jumbo, and the first thing I said to myself is, "Hey, this ain't no guitar, it's a bass". I posted that on the forum for laughs but wasn't kidding all that much. Most of us out here who have the customs have a C25 or so I do believe, it is what made Breedlove famous I also do believe. The custom concerts. But as far as that goes, a lot of us have shoulder problems, little bodies that can't reach over wide body jumbos and things like this...so jumbos are relegated to 12 strings and crazies like me who want an Ed Gerhard in their stable. If I were a bassman, I'm going for a solid rosewood jumbo 5 string, end of story. Unless I have this dreaded bursitis. But I love to feeeel that guitar make my body vibrate...I REALLY am only guessing here for ya'. Micheal and Dave know a lot more, and some forumers who don't know we are talking about a Sparky-Bass. Dig? Am I right Donny?
