I use a similar pick (Golden Gate) which is a tad smaller all around but basically the same size. I have "chatted" with some other folks over on the
Cafe` that really like thise tought and I have considered giving them a try--what keeps me from it is having to purchase so many. I talked with the folks at
Acoustic Disc (when making an order for some music) and asked if they had any smaller lots, but alas.

use the golden gates as well. Must say that the Breedlove sounds better with more bark using Wegen picks. I use the rounded picks more with my Collings.
Could be my technique, but my teacher seems to say the same thing.

I don't have an answer to your question regarding the Dawg picks. However, if you were interested in picking up one to try, the following site allows
the purchase of individual Dawg picks.

I haven't used the current Dawg picks, but I used the old style, original, dawg picks years ago, & still have one or two around; this is now the
Golden Gate, referred to above by Michael T. Currently, I like the JazzMando D'Andrea picks, but my faves now are the "mock tortoise" from Saga,
standard shape.

On a related note, has anyone tried V-Picks? See: http://www.v-picks.com/Mandolin.html
I tried them at NAMM and was impressed with the rounded edged ones. I also stumbled upon Pointless Picks: http://pointlesspicks.com/ |

I've come back around to preferring points on picks, though not to the extent of my brother, who sharpens picks to a POINTY point with a knife, for his
guitar.I have used round & rounded & triangular picks , but now I like the standard one point, two rounded shoulder pick.I still sometimes use the
rounded shoulder, but for precision playing, as in crosspicking, tremolo, duo style, etc., I find a point works best.
I like a pick at least 1.21 mm, currently preferring around 1.5 to a little under 2.

I have seen the v-pick (one version anyway) and would be interested in trying one if they were available locally I am just not sure I want to purchase the
sampler pack or the Fab Four pack.

I've only seen the the V-picks discussed on Mandolin Cafe & JazzMando, but didn't think it was for me. I guess some people like them. I'd try
one if it were available for an easy free trial.
I've wondered about trying the Pettine style picks, but I don't want to spend big bucks on a pick unless I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it! Actually, I'm happy enough with MOCK TURTLE picks from Saga, for $1.50. By the way, have you tried Pettine's instruction material? I have 3 of his series; of course, I'm still in book one, but it's an excellent method, maybe not quite as "NooB" friendly as Bickford, but more so than Cristofaro.

I haven't seen the Pettine material either... but I have both Cristofaro and Bickford. I have made my own Pettine pick, but I keep losing it (doh!).
My preference, however, in picks is currently the JazzMando pick (the original ProPlec). Very nice tone and think enough to appease me. I actually adore the Tortis (and real shell as well) picks, but they are too rich for my blood and either get lost, broken, or (ahem) stolen. Dawg picks are cool, but they just don't articulate enough for me - everything kinda mushes together, though the tone, overall, is good IMHO. Grimm |

I think rounded picks eliminate some of the highs, so "mushy" can be the result. The more point, the greater the highs, so too much point could give
an overly bright sound.
I use the JazzMando ProPlecs some, mostly for practice(though practice is almost all the playing I do). Thickness is real good on them.

I got the chance to try Dawg picks at the mandolin symposium....They're good picks....I got good tone with them...The material was very smooth and played
through the strings nicely...I myself prefer the Wegens...but if you're used to the rounder picks like the Golden Gates, or if you're really into Dawg
style then I would definitely recomend them...
