Breedlove: Yesterday, Today, and ??? (Factory Tour Pics) |
Lead | ||
|
About a year ago I had the pleasure to tour the Breedlove Facility; living in Bend, OR it only took me three years to make the opportunity to do it. Today I
made another opportunity, to ride by the site of the new plant and take some photos. Both are shown below for those who haven't had the chance.
The new site:
*************
I've been known to play with the following: D-18 : D-18V : Backpacker : 000-28EC : D-41 : Breedlove OM-M : Gibson C-0 Classic : Martin D12-1 : and a '98 Harley-Davidson FLTR Road Glide ************* Hand me my old guitar, pass the whisky round. Won't you tell everybody you meet that the Candyman's in town. -Hunter/Garcia

Thanks! I see that the new shop is coming right along. I think I will need to make a trip down later this summer when they have moved in and are ready for
visitors.

Thanks for the awesome photos! Now I know I'll have to get to their place and take a tour or two. What cool skills to have and what a cool place
it must be to work!

Hate to be negative but as someone working in manufacturing (not guitars), their shop is a mess. Looks very disorganized, even dirty and I'm surprised
they turn out the quality that they do. I am looking for a new guitar and am considering the Atlas which I know is not made in Bend I tried one at Guitar
Center that had a sever bend in the neck - truss rod adjustment improved it. I also played several at a local guitar shop and they seemed fine. Maybe with
more room the new shop will be better organized.

I've been to the Breedlove shop twice. Once for the extraordinary experience where we spent several days around the place and the people. The shop is small
and believe it or not... very organized. They have a production flow with work stations that seem to work quite well. Storage is probably their biggest problem
and the last time I was there they had several mobile storage units outside. I owned a custom cabinet shop at one time and try as hard as you can.... buy the
best dust collecting units that you can afford....hire the best people you can find....it's working with wood and having the tools you need out for the job
at hand. Up to the time a finish is applied it's dirty. I never considered it disorganized....I like to call it knowing where everything is!

Thanks for the additional info. There is nothing quite like being there to see it first hand.

I have been to the shop as well. And, although cramped for space (as Greg says). There is an efficiency there that most production shops cannot match. Not to
mention, everyone that I met--and I think only a few happened to be off site--was more than willing to explain just what they are doing and how it affects the
next step and the overall instrument. They are all craftsmen and take pride in what they are creating. It was very refreshing!
I Can't wait to go and visit friens and see their new shop! --Michael
