I was trying to figure out what was going on in the inside of the Weber and it finally occurred to me it was stuffed with newsprint to protect it from
over-spray. Yeah, I'm a little slow most of the time. As Martha Stewart always said... "simple yet elegant."

Here's the final result. The shorter scale makes this one much easier to play for those of us who are used to mandolins. The D soundhole results in
noticeable increased projection.

Tomorrow is my birthday...and tonight my husband gave me an early birthday gift. I had been looking at this incredible octave mandolin at MacNichol's for quite some time and was trying to justify how I was going to buy myself this instrument...luckily my angst was cut short by closing my eyes while my husband brought the box out of the hiding place and told me to open it. I said...is it a new computer desk? And he just said uh-huh.....I obviously missed the "delicate instruments...handle with care" sticker on the side of the box. I couldn't believe it. This phenomenal instrument is in my hands...and it's mine! I have been playing the mandolin for a little over four years, primarily celtic and bluegrass, but have been branching out into rock and other genres. My starter mandolin was a borrowed "second" mandolin from my brother in law. When he came to visit a couple of years later I felt like I needed to return the loaner and I bought a Weber Yellowstone F style from the local music store. I was in love from the moment I played the first note on that instrument. I have been playing this daily for the past couple of years. Recently I had been introduced to the octave mandolin and was enchanted by it's tone. Given my love of the Weber instruments I started searching the internet for a Weber Octave when I came across this wonderful instrument at MacNichols. It's been a REALLY good birthday!

Welcome Karen, and thanks for letting us in on your present ! We have watched the build of the octave for a while now, and to see it come full circle is
awesome. Man, I bet you really like your husband right now!!!!!!
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me." |

Happy Birthday Karen. Those are both beautiful instruments. Makes me miss my Weber Galatin that I traded. At one point before that I had a Weber Y2K with a
sound hole like your new one. It was great for its purpose but nothing like those two I'm sure. I'm glad that the octave went to a good home --
congratulations!

Great pictures! I'm happy to see that the octave mandolin has found a happy home.
Now, I need to order another octave mandolin to be the resident octave mandolin here at MacNichol. I'm thinking I'll do the same short scale length and D soundhole, but do a Yellowstone model this time. Please see the below links and let me know what you think.
