Weber Octave Mandolin Progress Pictures |

Here are some pictures of a custom Weber Octave Mandolin currently being built for my shop. This model has a custom 20 inch scale length as well as a
D-soundhole. I'm expecting this in the fall.

Oh oh, M.A.S. is coming. That top wood looks fantastic.

That is sweet. I actually played one of these the last time I visted Apple in Portland. It is very cool and I have been toying with getting one...What's
keeping me from it? Well I could justify it if I played a regular mandolin better than I currently do....LOL.

Mac is this a custom build for a customer or for your shop? Earlier I stated how nice the top wood looked, but upon further eyeballing all of the wood on it
looks really nice.

Sweet. Is it going to be a sunburst or one color? One of these days I'll finish the one I started but it's a long enough day just keeping my business
going in this economic slump.
I like your style, Dude.
Well, I dig your style too, man. Got the whole cowboy thing goin'. Thankee. |

I'd been wondering whatever became of Greg's build; he told us about it long, long ago; a year or two.
Looks nice, Mac; I'd like an octave, someday, but I think around the 20 inch scale would be more useful for me than the longer scale Weber normally uses.

Fingerpicker wrote:Yea it's been quite the ongoing project for me. There's a few more pics in my images of it you should be able to see. It's actually a solid body made of mahogany with a bookmatched walnut cap. The neck is mahogany and a bolt on. The fretboard is orange agate if I recall the right spelling. It's also bookmatched to get the look it has. The headstock has the same and I carried the grain pattern from the fretboard into it to get what I think is a pretty cool effect. All the wood matching came about from the light streak down the middle of the body. I liked the look and countinued it thru the instument. Other than time slowing progress....I have been on the hunt for the right pickup for it. I'm kind of hoping when it's finished that I end up with a mando sound that I can tweak with some effects for some original music I have. A bit untraditional....sorry....but hopefully cutting edge!

Greg F wrote: ...but hopefully cutting edge!Definately Greg. Like the look you achieved with the woods and grain pattern. Should be super sharp when you get the finish on it. "You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." ~ C.S. Lewis |

How 'bout justifing it in this sense: You will play better (up to the instrument) than you currently do if in fact you abort toying and take the plunge. Oh and Greg... nice stuff, gald you posted. now I don't have to go downtown to get some MAS. |

Hey Michael, Jen was just asking yesterday about you and the mando you had made. You know the one...fancy soundhole modeled after a window in a cathedral...She says she can't get that thing out of her mind when she thinks about a mando. What would Jen like to know? I know that some people may look at it and say that I went too far with the sound hole, but I still don't think so. This
mandolin represents my family roots and the Crescendo is the sound hole. My wife loves the sound the best of all three of my mandos--I am currently trying to
learn a song that was on the recently released tribute to Butch Baldassari (a very sweet ballad melody called "A Place In The Heart ") I am
not there yet but I will get there. The mandolin sounds a little sweeter each day as it ages. This mandolin is one of the reasons that I say I am pretty
immune to MAS.
It is almost time for it's 1st birthday party.
BTW I believe that there are still two Labraid A models at Gruhn's in Nashville. It's not too late to treat Jen to one extemely well made and sweet sounding mandolin (NFI). |

She seems to be immune from MAS currently. She heads right for the mandos when we visit a shop but always says "Nope". I think she was just
wondering how it is getting along and if you had said anything about it.
