Here are a couple of pics of the newest member of the Mando-Clan
It is a Ovation MCS148 Celebrity Acoustic-Electric Mandolin which I picked up this past weekend on my Trip to Apple Music Row with PortlandRain. Close up... Here is the whole clan (sans a early 20th Century Bowl wall hanger) Ahhhhhhh!

Like I said, a standing Ovation is in order for Mr. T. Those Celebrities are darn good instruments. I had the same burst in a guit many moons ago, wish I still had it. Ovation knows their electronics too, I am assuming you are pleezed with them. Cool find at Apple. Nice surprise to go home with something you prolly didn't know they had...or did you...? love the family shot!

When the Celebrity guitar models came out, I kinda wanted one, but never bought one. It seems to be a fine mandolin. How does it compare in tone to the others?
Are they as difficult to hold as their guitar brethren? I always need a strap to play an Ovation! Its like trying to hold a fish ! Congrats !
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me." |

I don't need to comment on the new mando, you know I like it already. I really like the wooden stands that you have for them MT. Cool.
I like the family pic also. That Labraid is outrageous. PR "All Music is the Blues. All of it!" --- George Carlin |

Thanks all for the kudo's on the latest member of the clan.
To answer more specific questions... OM: I did not know it was there. The last time I was at Apple I only recall a couple of Epi's and the Rickenbackers as far as electrics go. Crazy me, I don't have an amp. I was looking at a small one yesterday for pricing and need to do more price comparisons. Telly: The tone is ok, there is a difference between all of them, like I said in an another post, each of these has a different voice for different sitations. I have heard the Ovations "plugged in" before and that is where they really shine. My primary reason for this one is to be able to pop it into the gig bag and take it with me when I go to the coast, to the mountains, etc. without a lot of worry. Yes, it is a bit like playing a fish. But, I am used to that as my Labraid is a semi-bowlback. I learned a trick from classical mandolin players in that I use a small cloth (currently microfiber, but a small piece of suede will probably work better) in my lap and it keeps the mando from sliding around. PR: Yes I know that you like it, you are an enabler, that's what you are. Thanks for the comment on the stands. I made those with my brother several years back. |

Good for you, Michael
. Now if I could just find an extra $400 for the
Guild guitar & $300 for the bowlback mandolin I found in pawn shops today, & $3500 for Samboragod86's Northwest Classic guitar...![]()

Very sweet herd you have there MT! I, too, like the wooden stands. Even more special that you and your bro made em together. Also, great tip about the
sliding issue when dealing with an ovation-type bow back.
