...a song called "In with the purple and out with the blue" by Craig D'Andrea. He's an amazing fingerstyle player, very simple but beautiful
work. On the same record label as my favourite, Antoine Dufour. So far I'm up to about 2:23 in the video, need to learn the final tapping part. Up to about
3 hours total practice on it. Enjoy!

I am currently learning Cascade Rag by Kenny Sultan. I have been on it for about 1 1/2 weeks but still only have about half of it done.

Nice Keenan. He sounds like he has a little Will Ackerman influence in him. I cant wait to hear your interpretation.
I wonder how he gets that guitar to set up so high? I don't see a strap, and I don't think I see his knee. Maybe Mac knows. Is that one of those knee things? I cant remember what they're called. When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me." |

Im fairly sure he might be using a "neck up" .
They look really handy, and I've wanted one for a long time.

That was really good Keenan. Good luck with it.

Portland Rain wrote:I took a couple classes from him about 3 weeks ago when he was at Dusty Strings in Seattle. I picked up quite a bit from him and it was one of the best learning experiences I think I have had. His playing is amazing and his fingers were moving so fast it was hard to see what he was doing some times. However, he would slow things down so we could watch his hands. Then he would break it down into a measure at a time. The first class was on monotonic bass and the second class was alternating bass. It was a great workshop with the goal being we would all be playing using more of the fretboard more often than we were before the workshop. However, he did not work on Cascade Rag. I have two of his acoustic only CDs and it is on one of those. Also, he has a book out that includes Cascade Rag and I am trying to pick it up from both the CD and the book. The difficulty is, as Kenny said at the workshop, he never plays anything the same twice. So when you hear him live it will not be exactly like you heard it on one of his CDs. He also encourages you to not play it exactly as he does so you end up starting to develop your own style of playing. For example I put in a finger roll and a slide that he does not use in Cascade Rag. I agree completely with you PR he is amazing to listen to and see in person. Also, he is an outstanding teacher. That Kenny Sultan model Martin that is out, and he had with him, has an amazing tone to it also. ragtime man |

Keenan wrote: I didn't realize the "Neck up" was so widely known. The guy that makes them lives here in town. I actually tried on with my Mando's it worked great--with one exception, it uses a suction cup at one end to attach and that was not condusive with the satin finish, even with that I would recomend it. That is a great tune Keenan. I too am looking forward to hearing your interpretation. |

Michael Tognetti wrote:Hey Michael I didn't know the fellow that makes the Neck Up was living in Southern Washington. Have you met him or have you tried both the skinny Neck Up and the wide Neck Up? I thought about buy one but didn't know which was the way to go so. Now that I found his website, instead of some place that sells them, I may give him a call and ask him which he would recommend. Do you have any experience with them? ragtime man |

Very nice tune Keenan, I can see why you would want to learn it.

It's tuned to FCDGCE. I felt like I was taking my life in my hands tuning my A to C. Beautiful tuning though.

I'm sure it'll sound even more awesome with the "Keenster" touch.

Wow! That sounds excellent thus far.
I see you're in Thunder Bay, where the "Notorious Milwaukee Criminal" Lawrencia "Bambi" Bembenek was finally caught. I road the same elevator as her during her trial, poor gal. Raw deal. |

Awesome Keenan. Very cool choice. Did you find the music or are you learning by ear (and eyes)?
BTW - Andrew White makes very nice guitars. I played a small body model not long ago and was quite taken with the unique design. A wonderful fingerstyle instrument. Education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a

I learned most of it by ears and eyes and later found the sheet music/tabs for it so that came in handy for the parts I couldn't figure out on my own. I
really want to try one of those guitars, they seem deadly.
