Value of my AC25/SM? |
Lead | ||
|
I may have to sell or trade my AC25/SM. The amp I was using at my church has crapped out and I need to get a new one. There is not to much info out there on
what she's worth. Can anyone give me an idea what my Breedlove is worth?

Didn't those sell brand new for like $750?
Unfortunately, now is probably not a good seller's position. It's always better to be trying to sell something to someone who already wants to buy, rather than convince them of the value of your item. You're very likely to lose a bunch of money. Could you borrow an amp to use while you get the other one fixed?

The church amp may not be worth fixing. It's an OLD Marshall SS amp. It sounded pretty crappy anyway. Borrowing an amp is a good short term option though. |

I don't know if all dealer do this but I have talked to two dealers who both told me the same thing which was they would buy one of my guitar for 1/2 of
what I paid for it. They then turn around and told me they try to sell it for 70 percent of what I paid for the guitar. So MSRP according to the two dealers
I talked to didn't enter into it.
As I say, I don't know if this is general policy or if I just happened to hit two dealers that did the same thing. Maybe Mac will come in on this one. ragtime man |

I think Rags is spot on. The dealer has to carry your "inventory" and make a profit on the sale. Doesn't mean that is what your instrument is
worth, except to a dealer. I always sell to a dealer as a last resort. Cars, motorcycles, guitars whatever. They are in business to make money. If you can hold
out for a private buyer, you'll certainly get a better price.
I don't like to discuss prices, as there are so many things involved. My suggestion would be to surf the Craigs and e-bay sites, and you should get a pretty good idea of what its worth on the open market. Anybody in DamnYankees area who can lend him an amp? If I was closer I'd certainly offer. Let you take some time and save up instead of sell. When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me." |

Hello,
I'm with Tele in that you should try to find a private buyer, and with the power of eBay, craigslist, and this forum, that could be fairly easy to do. For eBay sales, check out this link to see what other models have recently listed/sold for - Analyze eBay Sales If I were in your situation, I'd list the guitar on this forum and craigslist first. You can also send the information to me and I'll post it on my blog - there's no charge for this. If there are no bites, then go for eBay. Please note that now is the slow time for guitar sales, but around November 15, things will pick up dramatically. I wrote a blog post on selling a used instrument online. You may find some of the information useful. Please see the below link. Thank you. How To Sell a Used Guitar Online

I want to say thanks to all who responded. I think some may be missing my point though. I know where and how to sell the guitar. I have bought and sold a few
in the past. I just didn't know what dollar amount to ask for it. I wanted to make sure I was not asking too much or too little for it.

We aren't missing your point. We don't promote discussing what we think a 'fair' price is here. That is between you, the potential buyers and
of course, supply and demand considering the condition of the guitar in question. In fairness, you have more extensive gut instinct on this issue than any of
us do. Best wishes for success, and thank you Mac for your generous offer. I am grateful for your presence here.

Yeah DamnYankee, what admin said. I have been out for a while, so excuse the late reply.
There are so many variables involved that giving you a "dollar amount" of any kind would be pointless. Okay, here it is. We all want as many people as possible to enjoy the forum. The Buy/Sell section is for our convenience. If I start giving people pricing information, where am I getting it from? What criteria do I use? Am I familiar with you, your instrument, your care of the instrument, your part of the country, your intention of negotiation? If I am not familiar with all of these and more, I would be giving you poor information. I have no desire to set pricing levels, or give you an "idea" of price that may be low or high. To do so would be a disservice to you, and I don't want to do that. The fact of the matter is that there are so many variables involved, that there is only one way to determine the perceived value of any instrument. That is by you doing your homework. Check e-bay, Craig's list, and any other avenue available to you. You may find that you think your instrument is worth more than the ones you see listed. Perhaps you will decide to cut your asking price below what you see for a variety of reasons. No matter what you decide to do, it is a personal decision. Any one who thinks they can help you with that is misguided, or maybe just doesn't understand the process. Either way, pricing and selling an instrument (for a individual) is usually a difficult decision. A very personal decision. BTW DamnYankee, I saw your post for the sale or trade. I wish you didn't have to. Damn shame.
