Hi folks... it's Friday, so I thought I'd add some juice to the gallery today. This is another blast from the recent past... a Breedlove C12 custom
that I ordered toward the end of '05, and was delivered in '06. One of the cool things about this guitar (to me, at least) is that I came up with and
provided detailed drawings for the fretscape inlay. Then Kim Breedlove executed my concept perfectly. I'm not saying it's a particularly revolutionary
design, but it was a tremendously cool process to go through, and to be part of. It was also a bit scary, putting my own idea on a guitar of this caliber. But
I think it worked out well.
My original idea was along these lines...
The sun rays were going to be difficult to achieve (read: expensive), so I simplifed things a bit...
Of course, that diffuse halo effect around the corona at the 12th fret would also be hard. So I had to modify that part of the design, as well.
But that was decidedly un-flare-like. So I opted for the addition of a geometrical representation of a corona, in bloodwood and pearl. My final concept drawing for the 12th fret inlay was as follows:
And here's how things came out. Beyond the obvious visual charm, this guitar was a tonal killer, thanks in no small part to the Redwood, which I had put aside for posterity about six months prior:
If you're still interested in more information, you can read the complete story at the link below. But this is the first time I've shared my concept drawings - a BGMF exclusive!

Happy Friday, everyone, and thanks for reading.
