No particular order:
Dave Apollon Jethro Burns Don Stiernberg (three mandolinistas) Stephane Grappelli Svend Asmussen (violinists) Hugh (& Karl) Farr(violin [& guitar] with the original Sons Of The Pioneers) I don't really listen to much jazz; I prefer the swing era stuff, but I do like Rick Braun's trumpet playing, for contemporary, "smooth jazz".
Mandolins;
Breedlove Cascade; Victoria, B&J New York ; cheap Romanian Mandola; Flatiron by Gibson pancake(currently untunable, after "repair"attempt ). Guitar: Guild D-25NT.

I love the music my father listened to when I was young, so my list will be quite different:
Benny Goodman Earl Hines Louis Armstrong Sidney Bichet, Teddy Wilson, Jack Teagarden, Fats Waller, Artie Shaw, and so many more... Education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a
fire. -William Butler Yeats

2. Dionne Warwick/Burt Bacharach/Hal David 3. Tom Jones/Englebert Humperdink
4. Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass Band 5. Tom Leher Cool reminiscing there my friend... By the
way...did your dad play clarinet? Quite a few reed blowers in that list!

powerandwisdom wrote: I like that list, too. That clip is from Herbie Hancock's "Possibilities", a friend gave me a copy of the CD, pretty good stuff. "Don't Explain" is a
GREAT Billie Holiday song.

Louis Armstrong, Chuck Mangione, Trini Lopez, Miles Davis, and Wynton Marsalis would top my group and of the five I would have to say Louis Armstrong would be
at the top of the list for me.

As an ex-Trombone player, I can safely say it isn't the greatest campfire instrument...

Might have to do with how well I have been thinking lately. I just plain forgot about them. Not a good sign in my business. ragtime man |
